Europeans explored for many reasons. Most Europeans, like Bartolomeu Dias, traveled to the Spice Islands for goods, trade routes, and profit. However, Amerigo Vespucci was searching for discoveries, John Cabot was searching for a Northwest passage across North America, Vasco da Gama wanted to sail the same route as his father, and Magellan wanted to circumnavigate the world.
